Dr. Amer M. Burhan

Dr. Amer M. Burhan is a clinician investigator and knowledge mobilizer in the field of neurocognitive disorders and therapeutic brain stimulation. His research focuses on evidence-based care while exploring new therapeutics and collaborating with basic scientists to elucidate mechanisms of illness and treatment response.

After graduating from the College of Medicine at Baghdad University, Dr. Burhan immigrated to Canada and began neuroscience research at the Montreal Neurological Institute, where he was awarded the prestigious Jeanne Timmins Costello Fellowship in Basic Neurosciences. He completed psychiatry residency training at the University of Rochester (New York, USA) and further specialized in geriatric neuropsychiatry at Western University in London, Ontario.

Dr. Burhan integrates clinical excellence, innovation in care, knowledge generation, and knowledge mobilization to influence models of care, develop practice guidelines, mentor trainees and junior faculty, and conduct large-scale studies published in high-impact journals.
